sia

i don't know if i've been hiding in a closet or what, but a friend recently introduced me to the music of this chic. her name is sia & her music is awesome. i fell in love with it and ordered her newest cd on amazon & it just came today. yay! i'm always looking for new music that is safe to play in front of the rugrats. i'm going to make copies for kami, arah, becca & corinne.

spectacles

do i look smart or what?
the last time i wore glasses i was about 6 & i hated them, so i secretly broke them. that way i wouldn't have to wear them again. after too many years of driving at night blind as a bat, i finally decided to go in to costco again and get my eyes checked. i'm near sighted so i don't see things as well far away. i ordered some glasses to help & they came in today. cody and i picked them up after school . he says i look like his principle, mr. demarest.

monte cristo delicios-ness

while i was running on the ol' treadmill & skimming through some magazines the other day, i came across a recipe for a monte cristo sandwich. the picture looked super tasty. ao i started reading the recipe & it sounded incredibly familiar so i called my mama and found out that this was the same sandwich we grew up with (my mom made them from time to time). anyway, i was super excited to rediscover their goodness!! i haven't had one in years and holy-crap- they are really, really good!! I love sandwiches. I love French toast. even cody sort of like them, after he took it apart and ate all of the pieces seperately. HOWEVER, they do not seem to be a very healthy treat. :)

this here is a variation of the recipe:

buttermilk bread or potaoe bread (2 slices per sandwich)
evaporated milk to taste
eggs to liking/consistency ( i used 2 for 3 sandwiches)
butter
thinly sliced ham
mayo
swiss chess

*mix eggs and evaporated milk just like french toast batter.

*dip bread like french toast and grill over butter.

*in the meantime, grill ham.

*when the french toast has been flipped once, spread mayo on cooked side. then top mayo with swiss cheese.

*when cheese is melted, top with ham

*ad addtional slice of swiss on top of ham if you like

*top with second slice of cooked french toast.

*eat.

i have heard some variations where you dust it with powdered sugar and serve with jam or maple syrup (like breakfast time) or even dijion mustard. haven't tried either.
(that is not an actual picture of my sandwich, and i dont' reccomend eating this sandwich with raw zuchini chips...)

the road is not a parking spot.

when the sun comes out and the snow starts to melt, it's awesome to watch the ice cycles grow but it is not fun to drive on 3 inches of ice on the road in our neighborhood. remember the original mario brothers nintendo game, with the ice-land level? that's what it reminds me of, even with 4 wheel drive. so today, i was taking cody to school and as i was getting ready to make the steep turn to get out of the neighbor hood and down the hill. i discover that there is a freaking mini van parked in the middle of the road in front of me. i was only going like 5 or 10 miles an hour, but there was also another car coming up the hill in the oncoming lane. i went to slow down and realized i was literally sliding down the hill. i tired to turn my car to go back up- but no success. so now my tires turned to go up and i am sliding sideways into this mini van. i couldn't stop or do anything to slow down so i just sat there and put my hand up like " what he heck am i suppose to do now?" i ended up bumbing my back passenger side corner into the back of this van. i look over and realize that there is no one even in the van. i tried to move my car but since it was pure ice and i was now at an angle facing up the ice hill with my back end touching the other car, i was going no where. i tried to get out to access the damage and slid right on my butt, so i jumped back in. in the mean time, a few other cars almost hit me. i called merv (who was working about an hour away) and my parents. finally the owner showed up and says that his wife had decied it was unsafe to drive down the hill and left it parked there. why she thought this was a good idea, i do not know. anyway, he had a tow truck guy who pulled me out. all my car had was a very tiny bump in the bumper. the van had huge dent under the back window, but the guy understood that it was his wifes fault for leaving the car abandoned in the middle of a steep icy hill with no flares or hazards lights. so i wasn't at fault. he knew that if a cop was there, they would have been at fault for leaving it this way. cody did not make it to school today. the moral of the story is: don't be an idiot.

i need a girl.

i am completly addicted to dressing them up and making them cute. i convinced brinley to let me braid her hair into little corn-rows by telling her that when she took them out the next day, she would have princess hair. so she sat still for about 45 minutes and let me get my fix of girl hair. what a good little brinley. i use to play with brian's girls hair all of the time too, when they were close.
she said it felt funny to flip her head back and forth so they could "twirl". admiring herself, she said, "aunt julie, i surley do look beautiful."

tag, i'm it.

my childhood playmate, hope "tagged" me.....so here are the answers to the questions:

10 years ago:
I was taking my first year of college at spokane falls community college while working full time at fred meyer and getting ready to break up with a high school boyfriend.

5 things on my to-do list today/tomorrow:
1. help arah and matt clean out house.
2. check value village & hopefully find some size 9/10 shoes & boots for model coming later this week.
3. vitamin store
4. take cody bowling or swimming or to kid movie
5. work out

5 Snacks I enjoy:
1.franks hot sauce, just not alone
2.anything spicy... jalapenos, peppercinnis
3.apples and peanut butter
4.nachos (homemade, of course)
5....& sunflower seeds when i am driving.

What I would do if I were suddenly made a billionaire:
-pay off all of my siblings/parents/my own houses and all debt obviously.
-buy a huge piece of property near some kind of water. (maybe in a safe part of mexico or something)
-go on a gigantic vacation
-buy merv one of those space missions that are going on sale to the public for like $200,000 each( i'm much too chicken for space right now)

3 of my bad habits:
1.i stay up way too late.
2.i procrastinate doing things until the last minute
3.i always turn the stove on high first to get it hot becuase i'm too impatient. it drives merv nuts!
5 places I have lived:
1.page,arizona
2.winemucca, nevada (for real, people actually live there)
3.vernal, utah (and people actually live here too! just kidding alison!)
4.spokane, washington
5.juneau alaska

6 jobs that I have had:
1.newspaper girl (at age 12, i actually rode my bike and hand delivered papers with my sister. we did it 7 days a weekand & had to wake up at 5 on weekends. i highly reccomend it. we actually really liked it.)
2.grocery store cashier (i can still remember just about every single produce code at random)
3.waitress (nothing like utah, land of the $2 tip)
4.housekeeper (total slave labor for the rich, i have some REALLY nasty stories about this job it's amazing how complete strangers don't care what the house cleaner might come across...)
5.bear creek outfitters flyfishing tour company (super amazing job actually flying in to tiny little
islands all over southern alaska. i didn't take this job as seriously as i should have looking back now.)
6.vintage clothing peddler, providing the ugliest of clothes the whole wide world over.

5 Things most people don't know about me:

1.i have 2 totally different sized feet. almost an inch different.
2.i love to write, but don't do it nearly enough or as much as a i use to. i'm not really good at it, i just love doing it. it's theraputic for me and i've always kept a journal.
3.i got 100% on my driving test when i was 16.
4.my nostrils flare really bad when i laugh. this is because my nostrils are huge, an inherited trait from my dad.
and one more...
5.i'm a sleep walker and have been my whole life, my sister tells me stories. as an adult it has turned into more of a scream sleeper. i wake merv up just about ever night screaming about something. i rarely remember doing this.

now i'm suppose to choose others, but i don't know who has actually done this or who is interested but i'll choose you, you and..... you.

pinto rollin...

my dad and his best friend, bob calkins, made this video in college. we wre the video tape out watching it all of the time as kids. my favorite part is when the high roller throws down a $20....

thanks kami!!

snow days

so, they just ended up closing the school for the entire week. this is kind of a bummer because it means we either have to go an extra week at the end of the year, or use up some of our spring break. but it was kind of nice to have another unexpected winter vacation. we have mostly just just hanging around (and brineley too!) building forts,
playing xbox,
doing puzzles, (by the way this puzzle is rad and you can get it here )
and making snow cream. there is nothing the kids would rather do than cook with snow. if you've never made this and you have kids, i hightly reccomend trying it. but the snow has to be pretty deep so that it is clean. it brings back a lot of memories. my mom made it when we were kids and we loved it. you just get a big bowl of packed snow and the kids mix in evaporated milk, sugar and vanilla. (super healthy...ya right) they love making it. :)
