pine wood derby time.

some of the competition. cody's is the awesome blue evil knevil inspired version:
he's in love with this shirt. thanks gramma for sewing on the patches.
woohoo!!
ready for take off.
this track was seriously high tech. computerized and the whole nine yards. whatever happened to eyeballing it at the finish line? they race 3 times each and get an average speed score. cody won his first 2 races with the fastest speeds.

grandpa and dad trying to be humble while waiting for the 3rd race and final scores.
please let mine win..please let mine win. i promise to be a good sport about it....
the anticipation.....
"cody! cody! cody!!!"
happy spectator brinley.
go bro go.
my camera was a little messed up during the grand finale, but cody came in 3rd out of 30 and became the proud owner of an awesome 3rd place ribbon medal. he was super excited!! and merv was so happy you couldn't slap the grin off of his face.

sparrow= good luck?

the other morning i was in the kitchen making cody some breakfast while the baby was hanging out in her swing and i heard some odd noises, so i went into the living room and there was a little sparrow (...i think?) cruising around. the poor thing couldn't figure out what was going on or how to get out. i was trying to figure out how it got in here.

we get all kinds of critters up here: moose in our driveway, deer munching on the cherry tree, porcupines in the shrubs, a racoon hanging out on the front porch... along with the neighbors cats and dogs crapping all over our yard... but never a bird in the house.

cody said that it just wanted to do a little art with his art supplies...

then a few days later another bird got in, through the fireplace. we still have a few things we haven't gotten around to doing to it after we remodeled it last spring. guess we better get on that. merv climbed up on the roof and found a woodpecker pecking a huge hole through the mesh cover....

dinosaur hunters...

mervs final photoshop project: super-impose 2 photos together.

he originally wanted cody and brinley to do the running/hunting, but he's down to the wire on this project, brinley wasn't here and cody wasn't cooperating 100% so i helped out not only with the dinosaur hunting but with the photoshopping. ya i know, super high end fashion modeling here... i wasn't super thrilled about stepping into do it last minute with the 1 month post baby blubber physique, but cody loves his mama & thought it was pretty rad anyway.

life with a 1 month old.

we love her and can't believe its been a month already.
her latest activities & tricks include:

making funny faces..

and crossing her eyes...

and she like car rides, just like her brother did. even if her head does have to be smashed in between the 2 kidney bean shaped pillows to hold it up...

cody loves to haul her around the house... even if it scares the crap out of grandma. (this is a big deal to a 6 year old to be able to stand up AND hold the baby at the same time...)
late night brother sister chats...

she looks cute in most hats...

dinosaurs and carnies.

cody's been super busy with school. they've been working on all kind of dinosaur activities & they had a big dinosaur concert :
remember playing those things with the mallets?? definitely the best part of music class in my book....
...and then the teachers set up a "dinoasur museum" with all of the kids projects and completed activities. co cute!! cody was very proud of himself. i love kid art.

thats a handmade palentologist hat that he's wearing....
i fell in love with this self portrait on the wall. hopefully it comes home at the end of the year.
... and friday the school had the annual carnival-
complete with cotton candy.
i tried to talk the kiddos into the popcorn, but no go... cotton candy it was...

and check out this poor girls hair... i bet she didn't realize she'd be coated in cotton candy fuzz when she signed up to volunteer....
brinley mostly just wanted her face painted...
and i have no idea why the cake walk is such a huge hit every year but it is...
sarah was just happy to stretch her squishy thighs...

...uncle matt went to this same school and says back in his day, the carnival came with "real" rides out in the parking lot.
